RBI recruitment of 650 Assistant Posts – 2026

The Reserve Bank of India (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Bank’) invites applications from eligible Indian citizens for the post of Assistant. A total of 650 posts are on offer this time. The selection process will comprise a nationwide competitive examination in two stages – Preliminary Examination and Main Examination – followed by a Language Proficiency Test (LPT).

The detailed advertisement is available on the Bank’s official website www.rbi.org.in. It is also being published in the Employment News / Rojgar Samachar. Please note that any corrigendum or updates related to this advertisement will be hosted exclusively on the Bank’s website www.rbi.org.in.

1. Candidates must satisfy themselves about their eligibility: Before proceeding to apply, candidates should carefully go through the eligibility conditions prescribed for the post. The Bank will provisionally admit all applicants who submit the online application along with the prescribed fee/intimation charges (wherever applicable), based solely on the details furnished in the application form. However, the actual determination of eligibility will take place only at the time of document verification. Should it come to light at any stage, even after appointment, that any information submitted online is false or incorrect, or that the candidate fails to meet the eligibility norms as per the Bank’s assessment, his/her candidature will stand cancelled forthwith. In case the candidate has already joined the Bank’s service, such appointment may be terminated without any notice.

2. How to apply: Applications can be submitted online only through the Bank’s official website www.rbi.org.in. No other mode of application will be accepted or entertained.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Nationality: a candidate must be either

  1. a citizen of India, or
  2. a subject of Nepal, or
  3. a subject of Bhutan, or
  4. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  5. a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Age (as on 01/02/2026)Between 20 and 28 years. Candidates born not earlier than 02/02/1998 and not later than 01/02/2006 (both days inclusive) are only eligible to apply. Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit is available for specific categories. Please check the attached detailed advertisement.

Educational Qualifications/ Experience (as on 01/02/2026):

  1. At least a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks (pass class for SC/ ST/ PwBD candidates) in the aggregate and the knowledge of word processing on PC.
  2. A candidate belonging to Ex-servicemen category (except dependents of ex-servicemen) should either be a graduate from a recognized University or should have passed the matriculation or its equivalent examination of the Armed Forces and rendered at least 15 years of defence service.
  3. Candidates applying for post in a particular Recruiting Office should be proficient in the language (i.e., know to read, write, speak and understand the language) of the state/ any of the states falling under the Recruiting Office.

The selection process for the post of Assistant in the Reserve Bank of India consists of three stages: Preliminary Examination, Main Examination, and Language Proficiency Test (LPT).

I. Preliminary Examination (Objective type, multiple choice questions) This is a qualifying exam with sectional timing.

  • English Language: 30 questions, 30 marks, 20 minutes
  • Numerical Ability: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes
  • Reasoning Ability: 35 questions, 35 marks, 20 minutes Total: 100 questions, 100 marks, 60 minutes (composite time with sectional cut-offs)

II. Main Examination (Objective type, multiple choice questions) Candidates qualifying in Prelims will appear for this.

  • Test of Reasoning: 40 questions, 40 marks, 30 minutes
  • Test of English Language: 40 questions, 40 marks, 30 minutes
  • Test of Numerical Ability: 40 questions, 40 marks, 30 minutes
  • Test of General Awareness: 40 questions, 40 marks, 25 minutes
  • Test of Computer Knowledge: 40 questions, 40 marks, 20 minutes Total: 200 questions, 200 marks, 135 minutes (sectional timing)

III. Language Proficiency Test (LPT) Candidates provisionally shortlisted based on Main Examination performance will undergo the LPT. This test will be held in the official/local language(s) of the concerned State/Union Territory (as per details in Appendix-I of the notification). Those not proficient in the specified language will be disqualified. LPT is mandatory with no exemptions allowed, and it will be conducted at the respective Regional Offices of the Bank.

Pay Scale: Selected Candidates will draw a starting basic pay of ₹29,000/- per month in the scale of ₹29000– 1700 (3) – 34100 – 2040 (4) – 42260 – 2720 (6) – 58580 – 2950 (2) – 64480 – 3370 (3) – 74590 – 4050 (1) – 78640 and other allowances, as admissible from time to time. At present, initial Monthly Gross Emoluments (without HRA) for Assistant will be approximately ₹58,514/-.

** House Rent Allowance of 15% of Pay will be paid to them, additionally, if they are not staying in Bank’s accommodation.

* Bank Transaction charges for Online Payment of examination fees/intimation charges will have to be borne by the candidate.

@ Fee/ Intimation charges waiver is only for those employees of RBI (staff candidates) who satisfy the eligibility criteria separately stipulated by the Bank vide its circular RBI circular CO. HRMD. No. G-75/5599/05.01.01/2013-14 dated December 20, 2013 read with RBI circular CO. HRMD. No. G-132/17000/05.01.01/2013-14 dated June 9, 2014. Their status as staff candidate will be verified at the time of LPT/ Document verification. In case they are not eligible to be treated as staff candidates (in terms of above referred HRMD circulars), they are advised to indicate themselves as non-staff candidates and pay fees/ intimation charges as applicable to non-staff candidates.

Step-by-Step Online Application Process:

  1. Visit www.rbi.org.in → Go to “Recruitment for the Post of Assistant – Panel Year 2025” → Click to start online registration.
  2. Click “Click here for New Registration” → Enter basic details (name exactly as in ID proof, father’s/husband’s name, DOB, mobile, email, etc.).
  3. System generates Provisional Registration Number and Password – note them down (also sent via email/SMS).
  4. Log in → Upload scanned copies: recent photograph, signature, left thumb impression, and hand-written declaration (follow exact specifications/guidelines).
  5. Fill remaining details (category, address, qualification, exam centre preference, etc.).
  6. Use “SAVE AND NEXT” often to save progress. Preview the form carefully before final submission.
  7. Verify everything (especially name spelling, uploads) → Click “COMPLETE REGISTRATION” (no changes allowed afterwards).
  8. Proceed to Payment tab → Pay fee online.
  9. Click “Submit” → Take printout of application.

Important Notes

  • Apply only through RBI website – no other mode accepted.
  • Name in application must match photo ID proof exactly (critical for female candidates with name change after marriage).
  • All details (category, DOB, contact, centre, etc.) are final – no corrections entertained post-submission.
  • Incomplete applications (missing/clear uploads) will be rejected.
  • Apply early to avoid last-minute site issues.
  • False information can lead to cancellation of candidature and legal action.
